Great Food Spots in Universal Studios

Heading to the theme parks there is always a thought of food, well at least that is one of the things I think about when planning my trips. Where will we eat? I love to try new treats & the theme parks food, with also making sure I still eat a vegetable every now and then.  After our most recent trip to Universal Studios I have a list of great spots to eat, spoiler there are not many vegetables insight, I tried!

I will start with one I remembered being a lot better than it was, maybe I had a bad meal or it was just an off day. But the last time we ate at Krusty burger I thought it was a great burger, so I was excited to go back. We are Simpsons fans and this was a must do. Krusty Burger is inside Fast Food BLVD.  This is where you will find Cletus’s Chicken shack, the Frying Dutchman, Flaming Moe’s,  Lisa’s Teahouse of Horror & Luigi’s Pizza & Moe’s tavern.  We waited a very long time and the food was just not good, I had planned to go back because like I said we love the show & the atmosphere here is pretty fun especially in Moe’s. But the food was not worth going back for, this trip. Moe’s on the other hand was. We did go in and I was able to enjoy a Duff beer with my friend Barney.

Also in Springfield is Lard Lad donut home of the giant pink donut, this was fun and actually tasted way better than I expected. I was expecting an over cooked stale taste, but this was pretty good. I would go back here and get another donut, to share of course!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has some of the iconic spots in the books to eat & they are not to be missed for any Harry Potter fan! The Three Broomsticks over on the Island of Adventure side & the Leaky Cauldron over on the Universal side have pretty much the same menu and both places serve breakfast lunch & dinner. Breakfast is reservation only and currently, sadly, only if you have the Harry Potter package this is sort of disappointing as their breakfast looks so good. But onto their dinner & lunch. We love the fish & chips. We live on the seacoast and can get some of the best fish and chips out there, this passes the test. We would order it again. Both of these restaurants are a quick service and are first come first serve. We noticed the line for the Three Broomsticks being very long all day long, but was not as long at the Leaky Cauldron.

The other top two food items you can not leave the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with out trying are the Butterbeer ice cream at Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour located on the Universal side & frozen Butterbeer found in both parks. There are a couple kinds of butterbeer & honestly I find the frozen to be the best in the Florida heat.  You can also get Bertie Bott’s Beans and Chocolate frogs, both have cool packaging like in the movies, but the taste was just ok. If you’re going to the Wizarding World for the first time with a huge Harry Potter fan then get a treat to take home, but otherwise these are not worth the money.

For the theme park food fan head to Green Eggs and Ham in Island’s of Adventure Dr. Seuss land. This little quick service window has tater tot meals, some of the best theme parks food! My personal favorite are the Pizza Tots, but if you’re feeling spicy there is Buffalo Chicken Tots or need something a little more savory there is Brisket Philly Tots and then the classic Green Eggs and Ham Tots.

Honorable mention in Seuss land is this delicious churro. If you’re a fan of a churros you’re going to love this one too.

If you’re looking for a sit down meal with great food, atmosphere and service I have some place for you! Time to head to City Walk, just outside the theme park gates. I am only recommending the places we have eaten at. City Walk has a lot of great spots to pick from I have not tried them all yet, but what I have I have liked.

Toothsome Chocolate Emporium this giant restaurant you can not miss in City Walk, it’s an experience! They have a very steam boat punk vibe, a robot walking around with their person Penelope talking to guest and even posing for pictures.  They have a varied menu and are well known for their crazy milkshakes.  I highly recommend getting a reservation, they are a popular place! My daughter and I each had a salad and my husband had a burger with fries. We had heard mixed reviews for their food and had low expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised. Out of all the places we ate at in Universal we would go back to all of them, but this might not be my first choice.  We each ordered the instagram worthy milkshake but thought they were prettier then they tasted. I think kids would love them and get a kick out of the crazy toppings!

Next up in our yummy City Walk dinning experience is Antojitos Authentic Mexican food. I absolutely loved the vibe of this place. It was welcoming and I wanted to stay longer and enjoy the live music & margaritas. Out of all the places we tried this is high on my list of must try again.  Our server was fantastic too. I love a good margarita and really enjoy a spicy one,  but not every place can make a good margarita with a kick.  Some places try to hard with adding jalapeños and it just doesn’t work. I have a margarita at my home restaurant I love and am always looking for an equivalent while I am out… this place came close and it made me so happy.   We ordered the table side guacamole, becuase when a restaurant has a specialty food you just have to try it right? We have been to places that has done this before and it is good, but this was probably my favorite guacamole. I loved the flavor & it was so fresh, when I go back this is a must get! My daughter and I shared some tacos and we left full and happy. I can’t wait to go back here!

My last table service restaurant I wanted to share is Cow Fish. This is a funky mix of sushi and burgers, honestly something to keep everyone in my family happy. The food here was fantastic.    My daughter and I shared the tuna nachos, some sushi and we eat ordered own burger. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly.   If you’re looking for some good food, but have someone who is a little picky in your family, this might be a good spot to try. They have a pretty large menu giving you lots of options even if you like a plain burger.  The restaurant is pretty large and has a lot of natural light, it was colorfully decorated we had a fun time eating here & would definitely be back.

One last place to mention in City Walk is Bread Box. This is a counter service restaurant that makes your sandwiches to order. I am normally not a big sandwich person, but I wanted something not super heavy but filling. This hit the spot. The bread they used to make the sandwich was delicious & I got a side of tater tots, it was the perfect side. I liked that we could get a decent lunch and just sit down and enjoy. No waiting for our tables, just sit in the ac and enjoy. If you’re looking for something the opposite of theme park food, this is a great spot to try!

OK I guess I lied, this is really my last place to mention in City Walk, but in fairness it is not a place you’d go for a meal… it is a donut experience! Voo Doo Donuts, is a must do for any donut fan & really who is not a donut fan? The donuts here can be pretty crazy!! They do offer some plain ones, that are pretty tasty, but the ones with all the toppings are why you’re there to begin with, right? We each ordered a couple each and I am so glad we tried them. The donuts are sweet and filling. It was a great way to end our trip!

Have you ever eaten at any of these places? Which one was your favorite?
