Surviving the Summer Heat in Walt Disney World

Summer is a great time to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. Is it hot? Yes! Is it crowded? Not always, but can be somedays. Is it rainy? Not always, but be prepared for rainy moments and it is hurricane season. Should you consider visiting in the summer? YES!! Here are my tips for making your trip magical, even during the hottest time of the year.

Bring a metal refillable water bottle

You can fill up your water bottles at your resort before you leave for the day. All quick service restaurants will offer free water, it is tap water & some will even on hot days have water you can help yourself to. We like the Owala water bottles as they keep the water nice and cold!

Wear Light Clothes

We like to wear workout clothes. I have shorts like these Lululemon shorts they are comfortable, lightweight & dry quick! I also have tank tops like this Lululemon one . I also have Old Navy and Athleta athleisure wear. I tend to pack two outfits per day for summer travel. This way when we take a mid day break for the pool or AC time I can change into a dry comfy one. That brings me to my next tip-

Take a Mid-Day Break

Always take a break when you’re getting to hot. Mid-day tends to be the hottest time in Florida and is a great time to go back to the hotel for some AC time or pool time. If you have limited time and really want to push through book a lunch reservation for lunch not dinner. This will give you time to rehydrate with lots of ice water in a nice air conditioned restaurant.

Plan Out Your Park Hours Wisely

The first thing in the morning before the humidity has settled and later in the day/ evening are the ‘cooler’ parts of the day. Plan to utilize early entry, if you’re a Walt Disney World resort guest. If you’re staying at a deluxe resort check to see if there are any extended evening hours while you’re there. Once the sun goes down the parks are so much more manageable.

Things to have & not have in your Theme Park Bag

Like I mentioned #1 is water!! It is hot and you need to stay hydrated. I may also have Liquid IV to put in a water at some point during the day too. I like to have a sport sunscreen in my bag as it is more sweat proof than regular sunscreen. Some sort of portable shade, like a baseball cap. I of course like to look cute and do my hair but sometimes having a hat that gives my face a little shade is so helpful. If I have a snack in my bag I make sure it has no chocolate, speaking from experience, cleaning melty chocolate off your child in the summer is no fun. When the kids were small we also had a small battery operated fan for the stroller so they could get a little air moving while sitting in the stroller.

With the summer weather being hot and at times very rainy be flexible as much as you can in your day. Go back and take break when the kids need it. You can always go back to the park when everyone has cooled down. Star the day early and drink lots of water!!

Let me know would you visit in the summer?
